How to be June Cleaver

Product Reviews for the Busy Mom

First load of dishes is in the dishwasher.

Posted by ohhdear on Sep-5-2011

I’m excited to say I had everything for the recipe at my house with the exception of the packets of Kool-aid. I purchased 6 packs at our local discount grocery store for 6/$1. They did not have Sugar Free so I got the regular. Hopefully it won’t make too much of a difference :)

So given I already had the baking soda, borax and white vingear, I’m out less than $1 this go round.

So thanks to Facebook, I have a new obsession.  Have you found Pinterest.com yet?

Oh my!  This website is a virtual idea boards.  People post ideas and links to websites they love and everyone gets to see it.

I have decided to take this blog and turn it into a project blog for all the pinterest things I will be doing.

The first project I want to do is to make my own dishwasher soap.  This idea came at a great time because I’m almost out.  I will be making it today and will post how it goes.

Till next time, June :)

So last week started out with the death of my cat.  This week…what can I say about this week.  That last week was easier.

Why was last week easier?  Let’s see my husband was home.  I was sick but getting better.  Tax deadlines were a little farther away.  My children (at least – IT) were not sick.  There was no snow on the ground.  Did I mention my husband was home.

In case you haven’t read my earlier posts, I try to follow and organization calendar call Motivated Moms. Click HERE for original review. Well let me just tell you I am behind and I mean way behind. My floors are not swept. My laundry is washed but sitting unfolded in a basket at the foot of my bed. Not to mention the load in the dryer and the wet load of laundry in the washer. But I have an excuse, I’m sick.

So here it is 11:45 at night and I can finally breath out of both sides of my nostrols and where do I sit? In front of the computer b**tching about laundry and a driveway that still needs to be shoveled. I did shovel about 1/4 of it during ET first nap today.

So I bid you goodnight and hope to get the weekend start off right by spending lots of time with the hubby who is now home:)

Yours truly,
The anti-June Cleaver

Hoping on Friday

I’m still here

Posted by ohhdear on Jan-19-2011

So I started this blog very excited and posting every other day.  Then Monday hit.

Our younger cat, Misha, has been losing weight for a few weeks.  I thought it was because she just loved the wet food that we have been giving our diabetic cat.  Then she started to make a mess while eating the wet food so I took her to the vet.  They couldn’t find anything wrong with her and all her numbers were great with her bloodwork.  So we scheduled to have dental work done assuming that she had a bad tooth that was causing the problem.  I received the awful news around 11:00 Monday morning.  Ms. Misha had a large tumor under her tongue and there was nothing that could be done for her.  So my husband and I had to have her put down.  (I hate that statement BTW)

I’m a pretty strong woman but I have a soft spot for critters.  Not to mention the word cancer is a sore spot in my world.  My mom has lost a sister to breast cancer and a brother to esophageal cancer since 2008.  On top of that, my mother is currently battling rectal cancer herself.

Needless to say, I didn’t need the hear my cat had cancer but she did.  How do you tell a 3 and 1/2 year old that your cat is gone?  I feel bad because my husband and I are currently waiting till IAT brings it up.  I’ve had a lot of bad mom moments in my 3 and 1/2 years of being a mom but this one really bothers me.

So here is my pretty Misha, born in 1998 and RIP 1/17/2011.  I hated that she would get in my hard to clean garden tub but she loved the sun and it was a great place to be left alone and bask in the sun.

My Saving Grace – Sheepskin

Posted by ohhdear on Jan-15-2011

As a cloth diapering mamma, you hear about sheepskins being wonderful for baby.  It sounded a little crazy to me.  But I really wanted one for my son. That was because I wanted to own everything cloth diaper related with him.  We never purchased one.

Enter baby number 2 and I decided to ask for a sheepskin for her.  Let me tell you it has been a life saver with her. My daughter’s sheepskin came from this company’s website. Sheepskin Website

ELT at 1 day old

This picture was taken on March 19, 2010.  She is sleeping on a gorgeous brown sheepskin.

Why sheepskin?  For me, the first time you touch sheepskin you wish you could afford one large enough for your own bed.  It is soo soft.

For the baby, the sheepskin can help your little one stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  Not only does it keep ELT comfortable, it is a comfort to her.  ELT is now (almost) 10 months old and her sheepskin is like a blankie to many children.  We recently took a trip to grandmom’s house and I packed the sheepskin in the suitcase.  As soon as I pulled it out ELT crawled over to it laid down and hung out.  I did not realize how attached she has become to it.

A sheepskin is not for everyone because they are pretty costly but if you have everything you need for your second child and want to splurge on an item your child with use for a few years.  A sheepskin is a great product.

Book Review – Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

Posted by ohhdear on Jan-12-2011

For a long time I was a self proclaimed cookbook hoarder. One day I opened my kitchen cabinet and started pulling out my cookbooks. Many of these books hadn’t seen the light of day in a few years. Other cookbooks had been flipped through many times but never a single meal would be made from them. So off to my mother to find a new life at someone else’s house. Mom does a little ebaying and has yardsales during the summer.

Shortly after this revelation, an issue of Mother Earth News found its way to my mailbox. In this issue was an article on making bread…simply. Click HERE for the article.  I had to have this book and off to Amazon I went to purchase it.  This purchase is one I have not regretted.

I am a person who finds a new project and dives in head first but I refrained. I realized I had most of the items I need to make this so called “easy” bread.  The only thing I needed was a container large enough to make this recipe.

Before you run out and by the book be sure to use the above article a few times since it gives you the master recipe.  The master recipe makes great bread and really yummy pizza.

I started to take pictures but my finished product ended up going to a friend’s labor at our local birth center.  So I will have to take picture another day but for now.  Here is the start of my bread making…

I make sure to pull out all my ingredients before I start.

All dry ingredients in the bowl

Water has been added to the dry ingredients

Pour your dough in a large container and allow to rise

Recommendation – don’t run out and buy the book (but I promise you, you will want the book).  Use the Mother Earth News HERE and make sure you love the recipe. After a few weeks, if you are making bread regularly, buy the book. They have a few other master recipes and lots of variations to use.

I still need to make the cinnamon rolls in the article. I will let you know when I do.

This recipe is a great way to be June Cleaver without taking a lot of time and effort. Go out and impress your family and friends.

My Alter Ego

Posted by ohhdear on Jan-11-2011

So my wonderful cousin, who blogs for her own site, Farm Results, made me an alter ego today.

Isn’t she great?

Simple Little Baby is an online cloth diapering store that I own with a good friend. We started this store in August after the local cloth diaper retailer went out of business.

When we started out, we wanted to bring in diapers that were not as well known. As a small business, we wanted to support other small businesses and this was our way to do it. This idea has not worked out in our favor. We purchased 6 of Tiny Tushes One Size Cloth Diapers in October. All 6 of those diapers are currently sitting on our shelf. So in an effort to get some interest in this diaper, I’m going to do a review of it.

If you would like learn more about the Tiny Tush company, check out their website. Tiny Tush Website
Their diapers are Made in the USA. Inserts are not but you can upgrade you inserts if you would like 100% Made in the USA diaper for your little one.

Also be sure to check out our site for all the Tiny Tush products we carry at Simple Little Baby Website.

See you in a few weeks to tell you my thoughts.
