Book Review – Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

Posted by ohhdear on Jan-12-2011

For a long time I was a self proclaimed cookbook hoarder. One day I opened my kitchen cabinet and started pulling out my cookbooks. Many of these books hadn’t seen the light of day in a few years. Other cookbooks had been flipped through many times but never a single meal would be made from them. So off to my mother to find a new life at someone else’s house. Mom does a little ebaying and has yardsales during the summer.

Shortly after this revelation, an issue of Mother Earth News found its way to my mailbox. In this issue was an article on making bread…simply. Click HERE for the article.  I had to have this book and off to Amazon I went to purchase it.  This purchase is one I have not regretted.

I am a person who finds a new project and dives in head first but I refrained. I realized I had most of the items I need to make this so called “easy” bread.  The only thing I needed was a container large enough to make this recipe.

Before you run out and by the book be sure to use the above article a few times since it gives you the master recipe.  The master recipe makes great bread and really yummy pizza.

I started to take pictures but my finished product ended up going to a friend’s labor at our local birth center.  So I will have to take picture another day but for now.  Here is the start of my bread making…

I make sure to pull out all my ingredients before I start.

All dry ingredients in the bowl

Water has been added to the dry ingredients

Pour your dough in a large container and allow to rise

Recommendation – don’t run out and buy the book (but I promise you, you will want the book).  Use the Mother Earth News HERE and make sure you love the recipe. After a few weeks, if you are making bread regularly, buy the book. They have a few other master recipes and lots of variations to use.

I still need to make the cinnamon rolls in the article. I will let you know when I do.

This recipe is a great way to be June Cleaver without taking a lot of time and effort. Go out and impress your family and friends.

  1. Jaime Said,

I love this bread recipe. Your Mom actually sent me the copy of Mother Earth News containing it. I have my own baking center at the back of my kitchen. Don’t you just love your Kitchen Aid mixer! I have had mine for 10+ yrs & have never had a problem with it.

  2. Danielle Said,

I will have to try it. I am always looking for a good bread recipe. I use my “breadmaker” for mixing … then do the rest the old fashioned way. :-)
